December 21
“As the people were in expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Christ, John answered them all, saying, ‘I baptize you with water, but he who is mightier than I is coming…He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire…’” Luke 3:15, 16
Today’s symbol: Shell (a traditional symbol of baptism)
Ideas to do and talk about:
*Read about John the Baptist in a children’s bible or finish the online slide show from December 20th. I will stop reading before the stories talk about John baptizing Jesus. The main point I want my kids to understand is that John was sent by God to prepare them for Jesus.
*The Jesus Storybook bible explains that John told the people that they needed to be rescued and to get their hearts ready. How are we getting ready for Jesus? Advent traditionally was a solemn season of preparation that included examining oneself for un-confessed sins. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to greet Christmas morning free of the burdens of any un-confessed sin…
*Color the shell ornament and hang it on the tree!
